Apple announced the release of new Apple Intelligence features designed to enhance the user experience across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. Integrated into the latest software updates — iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, watchOS 26, and visionOS 26 — these new capabilities bring advanced AI-powered tools to millions of users while keeping privacy at the core.
Breaking Down Language Barriers with Live Translation
One of the headline features of this release is Live Translation, which allows users to seamlessly communicate across languages in real time. Whether in Messages, on a FaceTime call, or during a phone conversation, Apple Intelligence can translate conversations on the spot — with all processing happening on-device for maximum privacy.
Users can even activate Live Translation on AirPods Pro 3 or AirPods 4 using a new gesture or Siri command, making in-person translation effortless. By the end of 2025, language support will expand to include Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese (both simplified and traditional).
Smarter Visual Intelligence
Visual Intelligence now allows users to take action directly on what’s displayed on their screen — summarizing text, translating content, or even adding events from flyers to Calendar with a single tap. Users can search for items on their screen to find similar products online through integrated apps like Google, eBay, Poshmark, and Etsy, and even use ChatGPT integration to ask questions about anything they’re viewing.
More Creative Tools: Genmoji and Image Playground
Apple has expanded Genmoji creation, letting users mix emoji and descriptions to design completely new emoji characters — including customizations like hairstyle and expressions. Image Playground also gains new creative styles such as Watercolor and Oil Painting, powered by ChatGPT to help generate unique, personalized images.
Personalized Fitness with Workout Buddy
For fitness enthusiasts, Apple introduced Workout Buddy, a first-of-its-kind AI-powered fitness coach that delivers personalized, spoken motivation during workouts. Using private, on-device data analysis, Workout Buddy tailors encouragement based on metrics such as heart rate, distance, and personal milestones. The voice feedback is generated using AI models trained with Fitness+ trainers’ voices for a natural, motivational experience.
Building Smarter Shortcuts and Third-Party Apps
The Shortcuts app now leverages Apple Intelligence models directly, enabling users to build more powerful automations — such as summarizing documents, comparing transcriptions with typed notes, or extracting key information from PDFs.
Developers can also integrate Apple’s on-device large language model into their apps. Early adopters like Streaks, CARROT Weather, and Detail: AI Video Editor have already rolled out intelligent new features that work offline and maintain user privacy.
Enhanced Everyday Experiences
Other new updates include:
-
Smarter Reminders that automatically identify and categorize relevant actions from emails, notes, and websites.
-
Order tracking in Apple Wallet, consolidating shipping and delivery updates from merchants.
-
Poll creation in Messages, where Apple Intelligence can suggest creating a poll when it detects it might be useful.
-
Customizable chat backgrounds, powered by Image Playground.
Privacy at the Core
Apple emphasized that most Apple Intelligence features run entirely on-device. When additional computing power is required, Private Cloud Compute ensures that data is processed securely without being stored or shared. Apple says independent experts can inspect the code that runs on Apple servers, reinforcing its commitment to privacy.
Availability
The new Apple Intelligence features are available today as part of free software updates. Beta language support includes English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (simplified), with additional languages rolling out later this year.
