Apple has outlined a new MacBook Pro range featuring a touchscreen, tandem OLED display and M5 Pro and M5 Max processors, according to a supplied press release dated 28 October 2026.
The release describes 14- and 16-inch models aimed at creative professionals, with a thinner, lighter design, up to 24 hours of battery life and the introduction of Dynamic Island to the Mac.
OLED display puts creative work in focus
At the centre of the announced redesign is a display Apple calls PROLED XDR. According to the release, it combines tandem OLED technology with peak HDR and SDR brightness of up to 2,000 nits and adaptive refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz.
Support for both P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces is intended to serve photographers, designers and video editors who depend on accurate colour reproduction. An optional nano-texture finish is designed to reduce glare in bright environments.
Touch brings new possibilities for musicians and designers
The release describes direct touchscreen interaction as a first for the Mac, allowing users to swipe through webpages, pinch to zoom, move content between windows and interact with creative applications onscreen.
For music producers and DJs, the proposed capabilities include playing software instruments directly on the display. Logic Pro is described as gaining a Multi-Touch keyboard, chord controls and drum pads, while Algoriddim djay Pro is among the third-party applications listed for touch support.
Designers would be able to draw and manipulate artwork directly on the screen, while video editors could use touch gestures to select footage and adjust timelines. The release notes that listed third-party app support will arrive later this year.
Dynamic Island would also bring music controls, call notifications and Live Activities to the Mac.
M5 processors target demanding production workflows
The proposed configurations pair M5 Pro or M5 Max processors with up to 128GB of unified memory and storage options reaching 16TB.
According to the release, the processors are designed to accelerate tasks including video editing, 3D rendering, software development and on-device artificial intelligence workloads.
Other listed features include a six-speaker sound system, a 12MP Center Stage camera, three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot and MagSafe charging. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
Pricing and availability
The supplied release lists US starting prices of $2,899 for the 14-inch M5 Pro model and $3,399 for the 16-inch version. M5 Max configurations start at $4,499 and $4,799 respectively.
