Threads Introduces New Features for a More Personalized Experience

Threads is rolling out a suite of new features aimed at giving users greater control over their experience, from improved topic tagging to enhanced reply settings and an upgraded video player.

As part of this update, Threads is introducing Topics in Bio, allowing users to personalize their profiles by adding up to ten topics that showcase their interests and communities. Tapping on a topic in someone’s profile will lead directly to discussions related to that interest, making it easier than ever to connect with like-minded individuals.

In addition to profile personalization, Threads is also refining how topics work within posts. Users drafting a post will now see prompts to add trending or previously used topics, helping their content gain more visibility. Internal data from Threads shows that posts with tagged topics generally receive more views, underscoring the effectiveness of this feature in reaching a broader audience.

The update also introduces Follower-Only Replies and Quote Posts, expanding on previous engagement controls. Users can now restrict who can reply to or quote their posts, ensuring that interactions remain within their trusted circle. These controls build upon the Quote Controls feature launched in November 2024 and further enhance the platform’s commitment to user control.

Threads is also improving how content is surfaced within feeds. Users can now customize the order of their feeds, selecting a preferred view when they open the app. Additionally, the platform has begun phasing civic and political content back into the feed in a more personalized manner, following an earlier announcement about the evolution of political content on Threads.

The update also includes improvements to video playback, with a more sophisticated media player featuring new pause, play, and skip buttons, as well as a pinned progress bar for easier navigation.

These new features reflect Threads’ ongoing commitment to evolving based on user feedback, making it a more dynamic and personalized space for sharing thoughts, ideas, and unique perspectives.
