WhatsApp has launched a brand-new app for the Apple Watch, giving users the ability to stay connected without ever reaching for their iPhones. The update marks a major step forward in wrist-based communication, bringing many of the platform’s most-requested features directly to watchOS.
The new app allows Apple Watch wearers to read full WhatsApp messages — including longer texts — respond with written replies, send voice notes, react with emojis and view clearer images and stickers, all from their wrist. Users can also browse a deeper section of their chat history, making it easier to follow conversations on the go.
Call notifications are also supported, allowing people to see who’s calling before deciding whether to pick up on their iPhone.
WhatsApp emphasised that, despite the shift to a smaller screen, privacy remains central. All messages and calls on the Apple Watch app are protected with the platform’s signature end-to-end encryption.
The app is available starting today for Apple Watch Series 4 and newer devices running watchOS 10 or later.
According to WhatsApp, this rollout is only the beginning. The company says it will continue expanding and refining the Apple Watch experience based on user feedback.
