Apple has announced Final Cut Camera 2.4, an update to its professional iPhone filming app that introduces a redesigned interface, variable aperture support for iPhone 18 Pro and additional production tools with iOS 27.
Released as a free software update on 29 September 2026, the new version gives creators greater control over exposure, focus and video monitoring.
The redesigned interface makes frequently used settings, including shutter angle, ISO and white balance, easier to access. Creators can also customise overlays such as false colour and clipping indicators to assess exposure, while improved focus peaking adds sensitivity controls to help identify areas in focus.
A new tally light shows when recording is in progress, and a two-finger tap clears the viewfinder, allowing users to concentrate on framing their shot.
On iPhone 18 Pro, Final Cut Camera supports the Fusion Main camera’s variable aperture, which Apple says brings aperture control to iPhone for the first time. Users can manually select their aperture settings or choose shutter priority and aperture priority modes, giving them more flexibility when managing exposure.
The update also extends Cinematic mode effects to regular video, including footage recorded in ProRes and Apple Log. This allows creators to adjust focus points and depth of field when editing in Final Cut Pro.
With iOS 27, the app gains professional video scopes, including an RGB Parade and histogram. The RGB Parade displays red, green and blue channels separately to help users assess colour balance and exposure, while the histogram provides another way to evaluate exposure across the image.
Apple has also added clean SDI output support. Using an HDMI-to-SDI converter, creators can send a clean video signal into broadcast and streaming workflows.
Another addition, genlock offset, allows users to compensate for image artefacts when filming a display or address timing differences between an iPhone and other genlocked cameras.
Together, the changes expand Final Cut Camera’s role across mobile filming, post-production and multi-camera workflows, with variable aperture functionality tied to iPhone 18 Pro and the new monitoring and synchronisation tools supported through iOS 27.
