A High-Tech Solution for Lost Luggage
Samsung Electronics has teamed up with Turkish Airlines to introduce a new level of convenience for global travellers, launching the Smart Tagged Baggage Service on December 1. The initiative integrates Samsung’s SmartThings Find platform into the airline’s baggage management system, making it quicker and easier for passengers to track lost or delayed luggage.
Galaxy SmartTag2 at the Center of the Innovation
The service works through the Galaxy SmartTag2, a compact mobile accessory that helps users track personal items without built-in connectivity. When attached to luggage, the SmartTag2 uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to relay its location via SmartThings Find — a system supported by a massive global network of more than 700 million Galaxy devices.
SmartThings Find currently allows users to locate Galaxy smartphones, tablets, wearables, earbuds, and tagged items securely, anytime and anywhere.
A Boost to Airline Efficiency and Passenger Peace of Mind
Through the partnership, Turkish Airlines can now more effectively retrieve misplaced baggage fitted with a Galaxy SmartTag. When passengers submit a lost baggage report and include their SmartTag’s location link, airline teams gain real-time tracking information that dramatically speeds up recovery.
Travellers can also upload a photo of their actual luggage through the “Change Device Image” feature in SmartThings Find, making visual identification easier during the search process.
Long-Term Vision: Smarter, AI-Powered Travel
As the launch partner, Turkish Airlines is expected to extend SmartThings Find capabilities into broader customer service applications beyond luggage tracking. Both companies are positioning the collaboration as a step toward long-term innovation powered by AI-driven devices and software.
Samsung plans to roll out similar partnerships with additional airlines, aiming to strengthen global adoption of its SmartThings ecosystem.
