Women Take the Wheel in Africa’s E-Mobility and Safer Transport Future

In celebration of Women’s Month, Smarter Mobility Africa and WiN have announced a landmark virtual event, Powering Progress: Women, E-Mobility & Safer Transport in Africa, set to take place on Wednesday, 20 August 2025.

The free webinar will spotlight trailblazing women who are transforming transport systems across Africa to be smarter, safer, and more inclusive. With a dynamic mix of policy expertise, lived experiences, and practical solutions, the event aims to inspire fresh approaches to mobility that work for all.

A Platform for Change

Sponsored by the uYilo Electric Mobility Programme, the event will feature high-level insights from women driving progress in electric mobility, public transport safety, and gender-inclusive innovation.

  • Women in eMobilityEdem Foli, Programme Manager at uYilo Electric Mobility Programme, will highlight women’s role in advancing EVs, charging infrastructure, and battery technology.

  • SHE CAN Tool: Embedding Gender & Safety in TransportOluwaseun Sonoiki, Legal Counsel at LAMATA, will share an award-winning approach to tackling gender-based challenges in public transport.

  • Empowering Safe TransitTenele Ndlovu, Project Manager for Zero-Emission Buses at C40 Cities, will unpack anti-harassment strategies in the shift to electric bus fleets.

  • Safety in Public Transport within the Minibus Taxi IndustryRebecca Phala, Head of Communication at SANTACO, will address safety improvements in Africa’s most widely used transport mode.

The discussion will be moderated by Sudeshnee Pillay, Conference Producer at Smarter Mobility Africa.
