Samsung Electronics has announced a major software update that will bring AI assistant activation through the side button to select Galaxy A series smartphones, a popular feature previously exclusive to the premium Galaxy S series.
The update, rolling out globally in early May, reinforces Samsung’s commitment to democratizing cutting-edge AI technology across its product lineup.
With this update, Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G, and A26 5G users will be able to activate Google’s AI-powered assistant, Gemini, by simply pressing and holding the side button — streamlining access to smarter, voice-driven mobile experiences.
Samsung’s move to integrate Awesome Intelligence into the Galaxy A series was the first step in opening up the brand’s latest mobile AI features to a wider audience.
This next evolution enables users to carry out tasks more intuitively — whether it’s checking their calendar, getting restaurant suggestions, or even finding a dinner spot on Google Maps and instantly sending the location to a friend via Messages.
“Samsung and Google have been working together to deliver seamless, intuitive, and meaningful AI experiences, making the latest technology more accessible for more users,”
said Jay Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the Customer Experience Office at Samsung’s Mobile eXperience Business.
“We’re excited that Galaxy A series users will now be able to activate Gemini faster and more naturally through a simple gesture that brings intelligent support into the flow of daily tasks.”
Designed for users who value both performance and affordability, the Galaxy A series now offers an even smarter mobile experience. Whether planning a last-minute outing or seeking personalized recommendations, Gemini can now respond instantly to voice commands like: “Find French, pet-friendly restaurants with terrace seating nearby.”
Users can get results and share details with friends — all without typing a word.
The update marks another step in Samsung’s broader strategy to bring premium-level features to its mid-range lineup, ensuring that more users around the world can benefit from the future of AI-enabled mobile technology.
