Google Unveils AI-Powered Enhancements to Android Experience

At the Galaxy Unpacked event, Google showcased its latest advancements in AI-driven Android smartphone experiences, focusing on seamless and intuitive technology for all users. The updates, centered around the AI assistant Gemini and other innovative tools, aim to enhance personalization, accessibility, and productivity.

Gemini: Your AI Assistant, Reimagined

Google introduced significant updates to Gemini, designed to make it even more helpful and versatile:

  • Multitasking Made Easy: Gemini can now perform multiple tasks across different apps. For instance, users can ask Gemini to find nearby restaurants with outdoor seating via Google Maps and simultaneously draft a text message with the details in Google Messages. This feature is now available to all Gemini users on Android, iOS, and the web.
  • Enhanced Visual Conversations with Gemini Live: Gemini Live’s natural conversational capabilities are now enriched with multimodal features. Users can add images, files, and YouTube videos to their discussions, enabling brainstorming, learning, and preparation for significant events. This update begins rolling out today on Pixel 9 and Samsung S25 devices.
  • Introducing Project Astra: Screen sharing and live video streaming are coming to the Gemini app in the coming months, initially launching on Pixel and Samsung S25 devices.

Circle to Search Gets Smarter

Originally introduced at last year’s Samsung Unpacked, Circle to Search has received two key updates:

  • AI Overviews: By circling objects, places, or trending images on the screen, users can access AI-generated snapshots with helpful information and links for further exploration. This feature is now available globally in English where AI Overviews are supported.
  • Instant Actions: Circle to Search now recognizes numbers, email addresses, and URLs, enabling users to take immediate action, such as calling, emailing, or visiting a website with a single tap.

Accessibility Innovations for Samsung Devices

In collaboration with Samsung, Google unveiled new accessibility features for Galaxy S25 devices:

  • LE Audio for Seamless Connectivity: Galaxy S25 devices now support LE Audio, offering hands-free calling, personalized audio adjustments, and low-latency connections to GN ReSound and Oticon hearing aids.
  • Enhanced TalkBack Compatibility: TalkBack 15 now supports braille displays using HID, a popular Bluetooth connection standard.
  • Gemini Nano for Richer Image Descriptions: Samsung devices will integrate Gemini Nano, Google’s AI model optimized for on-device tasks, providing detailed image descriptions for users who are blind or have low vision.
