MTN Group Concludes Sale of Guinea Operations to State Ownership

MTN Group Limited, one of Africa’s largest telecom operators, has finalized the sale of its operations in Guinea, known as MTN Guinea-Conakry, to the State of Guinea.

The transaction, completed on December 30, 2024, marks a strategic move by MTN to streamline its portfolio as part of its Ambition 2025 strategy.

Ralph Mupita, MTN Group President and CEO, emphasized the significance of this milestone, stating:

“This milestone marks a new phase for MTN Guinea-Conakry under local ownership, and MTN thanks the staff, customers, regulators and broader stakeholders in Guinea for the support during the time MTN has been operational in the country. Concluding this transaction is in line with the strategy to simplify the portfolio and allocating capital to markets where we can make a difference as MTN and deliver long-term growth and returns.”

The sale aligns with MTN’s broader goals of portfolio optimization and simplification, allowing the company to focus on markets where it sees the greatest potential for growth and impact.

MTN Guinea-Conakry has been a significant player in the local telecom sector, providing connectivity and services to millions. Under its new local ownership, the operation is set to enter a new chapter with a focus on national priorities and development.
