Betty Mwangi is the CEO of Jumia Kenya

Betty Mwangi, CEO of Jumia Kenya, joined Jumia in November 2021. An engineer with over 20 years of experience in the telecommunications, insurance, and pharmaceutical industries, Betty was recognized as one of the Top 10 most influential women in the mobile telecommunication industry by MCI (Mobile Communications International) and named twice as one of the Top 20 most powerful African women.

Earlier in her career, Betty served as Group Commercial Director for Britam Group PLC, and worked as Director of Financial Services for Safaricom M-PESA. She also led Kenya’s Safaricom’s M-PESA from inception, growing a customer base equivalent to 80% of Kenya’s adult population and transactions amounting to 40% of Kenya’s GDP, resulting in the current digital financial inclusion penetration of 83%.

She earned a B. Eng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Victoria University of Manchester and an MBA at the University of Leicester – both in the United Kingdom. She is a Chartered Marketer and a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
