Apple has announced a new generation of professional displays, introducing an updated Studio Display and the all-new Studio Display XDR, designed to deliver high-end performance for creators, developers, and media professionals.
The new display lineup is built to integrate seamlessly with the Mac ecosystem and offers improved camera systems, enhanced audio capabilities, and next-generation connectivity powered by Thunderbolt 5.
Studio Display Gets Upgraded Camera, Audio, and Connectivity
The refreshed Studio Display features a 27-inch 5K Retina display with more than 14 million pixels and 600 nits of brightness, delivering detailed visuals for tasks such as photo editing, coding, music production, and video work.
The display also includes a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, which automatically keeps users centered during video calls. A feature called Desk View simultaneously shows both the user and a top-down view of their desk, making it useful for demonstrations and creative presentations.
In addition, the display integrates a studio-quality three-microphone array and a six-speaker system with Spatial Audio, including force-cancelling woofers that deliver deeper bass compared to the previous generation.
Connectivity has also been upgraded with Thunderbolt 5, enabling users to connect high-speed accessories or daisy-chain up to four displays for expanded workspaces.
Studio Display XDR Targets Professional Creators
The headline product in the lineup is the Studio Display XDR, which Apple describes as its most advanced professional display yet.
The device features a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR display powered by a mini-LED backlight system with more than 2,000 local dimming zones, allowing for exceptional contrast and brightness.
Key specifications include:
-
Up to 1000 nits of SDR brightness
-
2000 nits of peak HDR brightness
-
1,000,000:1 contrast ratio
-
120Hz refresh rate with Adaptive Sync
These capabilities make the display particularly suited for workflows such as HDR video editing, color grading, filmmaking, and 3D animation.
The XDR model also supports both P3 wide color and Adobe RGB, making it suitable as a reference monitor for designers and print professionals who require highly accurate color reproduction.
Built for Performance and Flexible Workspaces
Both displays include the same camera, audio system, and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity. They can also function as a Thunderbolt hub, with USB-C ports for additional accessories and charging capabilities of up to 140W, enough to fast-charge a 16-inch MacBook Pro.
The Studio Display XDR comes with a tilt- and height-adjustable stand, offering a 105mm height range and a counterbalancing arm designed to keep the screen steady during adjustments. Users can also opt for a VESA mount adapter for customized setups.
Apple Emphasizes Sustainability Goals
According to Apple, both displays were designed with sustainability in mind as the company continues its push toward becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
The devices include 100 percent recycled aluminum in the stand and 80 percent recycled glass in the standard display option. Packaging is also fully fiber-based to improve recyclability.
Pricing and Availability
Customers can begin pre-ordering the displays on March 4, with availability starting March 11 in select markets.
Pricing starts at:
-
$1,599 for Studio Display
-

The XDR model replaces the company’s previous professional monitor, the Pro Display XDR.
