Nvidia-Backed Lambda Eyes $4 Billion Raise Ahead of Planned 2027 IPO

AI cloud-computing company Lambda is reportedly seeking up to $4 billion in fresh funding as it prepares for a potential stock market debut in 2027.

According to Reuters, citing The Wall Street Journal, Blackstone and Coatue Management are leading the proposed round, which would value the Nvidia-backed company at $14.5 billion before the new investment. The financing could be Lambda’s final private funding round before an initial public offering.

Building Computing Capacity for AI

Lambda provides access to GPU-powered cloud computing used for artificial intelligence workloads. Founded in 2012, the company forms part of a group of specialist cloud providers expanding infrastructure to serve AI developers and businesses.

Its fundraising efforts come as the cost of supplying that computing power creates substantial financing needs. Data Center Dynamics reports that Lambda recently announced $1 billion in secured financing, following a $926 million facility in August 2026.

Anthropic Deal Drives Growth in Orders

Lambda’s backlog of unfilled orders reportedly increased from $15 billion in June to $50 billion in September.

According to TechCrunch, much of that increase came from a $35 billion commitment by Anthropic, following a deal signed in late August. The agreement gives Lambda a major source of future business, while also making its growth closely tied to a single large customer.

The figures represent contracted business awaiting delivery, rather than revenue already earned.

Preparing for Public Markets

Lambda has also changed its leadership as it prepares for greater scrutiny. The Wall Street Journal reports that veteran executive Michel Combes replaced co-founder Stephen Balaban as chief executive, with Balaban moving into the chief technology officer role.

The proposed listing remains conditional. A letter reviewed by the Journal indicated that Lambda’s 2027 IPO target depends on execution and market conditions.

The reported $4 billion fundraising should therefore be understood as a round in progress, rather than a completed investment. Lambda did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
