Meta’s $1 Billion Kansas City Data Center Now Operational

Meta has officially launched its latest data center in Kansas City, marking a $1 billion investment in Missouri and a significant step forward in the company’s global infrastructure expansion. Operational and serving traffic, the new facility represents a cornerstone in Meta’s mission to connect billions of people worldwide.

Why Kansas City? Strategic Location and Community Partnerships
In selecting Kansas City, Meta cited the city’s robust electrical grid, excellent infrastructure, skilled workforce, and strong local partnerships as key factors. Brad Davis, Meta’s Data Center Community and Economic Development Director, said, “We are extremely proud to be part of this community, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen our partnership for years to come.”

Driving Local Jobs and Economic Growth
Meta’s data center projects have historically supported more than 30,000 construction jobs in the U.S. and currently sustain over 5,100 operational roles across its sites. The Kansas City facility alone engaged an average of 1,500 skilled trade workers at peak construction and is expected to sustain over 100 full-time jobs once fully operational.

In addition to job creation, Meta has contributed more than $1 million to schools and nonprofits across Clay County, Platte County, and Kansas City. Programs like the Community Accelerator and Data Center Community Action Grants provide small businesses with digital skills training and funding for STEAM-focused initiatives.

Sustainability at the Core
The Kansas City Data Center is LEED Gold certified, reflecting Meta’s commitment to energy efficiency, water conservation, supply chain responsibility, and recycling. The facility operates on 100% clean and renewable energy, while a water-efficient cooling system and stormwater repurposing have saved over one million gallons of potable water during construction.

Looking Ahead: AI-Optimized Data Centers
Meta is also preparing for the next generation of AI-optimized data centers, with the first facility slated to open in 2026. These centers will combine high-performance infrastructure, custom hardware, and AI-driven resource efficiency, supporting the company’s expanding work in artificial intelligence and next-generation technologies.

A Commitment to Community and Innovation
Meta continues to invest in local utilities, energy infrastructure, and sustainable energy projects. The company’s data centers aim to hire and source materials locally whenever possible while directing grants toward initiatives that leverage technology for community benefit and inspire the next generation of innovators.
