PAIX Data Centres Expands into Senegal

PAIX Data Centres, a leading provider of digital infrastructure in Africa, has announced the construction of a cutting-edge data centre in Dakar, Senegal. This milestone marks a significant expansion of the company’s West African network, strengthening the region’s digital infrastructure to meet the increasing demand for high-quality colocation and connectivity services.

A Strategic Hub for West Africa

With operational data centres in Accra, Ghana, Nairobi, Kenya, and Djibouti, PAIX Data Centres’ latest investment in Senegal positions Dakar as a key gateway for digital services in West Africa. The facility will leverage four existing submarine cables (ACE, MainOne, SAT3, SHARE) and upcoming installations like 2Africa, making it a crucial access point for businesses looking to serve the region’s fast-growing digital economy.

“The construction of this new data centre in Dakar demonstrates our commitment to the development of digital infrastructure in West Africa,”

said Boubacar Fall Sy, Managing Director of PAIX Data Centres Senegal.

“We look forward to providing local and international businesses with world-class colocation and connectivity services, facilitating their digital transformation.”

High-Tech Infrastructure for a Growing Market

PAIX Data Centres has acquired land for the project, with construction set to deliver a modern facility offering:

  • 918 square meters of usable colocation space.
  • 1.2 megawatts of critical power to ensure stable operations.
  • 330 secure server bays for IT equipment hosting.

The first phase of the project is scheduled to be operational in 2026, marking a pivotal moment in Senegal’s digital development. The data centre will provide businesses with secure, scalable, and high-performance infrastructure, enabling innovation and economic growth.

Commitment to Sustainability

As part of its environmental initiatives, PAIX Data Centres is committed to designing energy-efficient facilities that optimize local resources. The company aims to operate its data centres with 100% renewable energy by 2030, reducing carbon footprints and ensuring sustainable operations. The new Dakar facility will also focus on water conservation in a region where water resources are limited.

Boosting Senegal’s Economy and Digital Sovereignty

The PAIX Dakar data centre will create significant employment opportunities:

  • 200 workers will be engaged in construction.
  • 20 full-time employees will manage operations.
  • Business opportunities for local architects, engineers, contractors, and maintenance services.

Yankhoba Ndiaye, Managing Director of Dariss Consulting, highlighted the data centre’s role in strengthening Senegal’s digital sovereignty.

“This initiative is essential to meet the growing need for technological infrastructure and position Senegal as a digital hub in West Africa,” he said. “It will reduce dependence on foreign data storage and enhance national data security.”

A Global Gateway for Connectivity

Dakar’s location and submarine cable connections make it a strategic digital hub linking West Africa, Europe, and South America. The investment is set to attract global tech giants, including cloud service providers, content delivery networks (CDNs), and social media platforms, all seeking to expand in Africa.

“PAIX Data Centres’ investment in Dakar positions it at the crossroads of connectivity,”

said Wouter van Hulten, CEO of PAIX Data Centres.

“We have received strong interest from our global customers, and we plan to develop thriving cloud and content magnet hubs in Dakar.”

Partnering for a Digital Future

PAIX Data Centres is backed by Africa50, an investment platform established by 32 African governments, including Senegal, to accelerate infrastructure development. The company is also a member of the European Global Gateway Business Advisory Group, collaborating with the European Union to strengthen Africa’s digital economy.

Mohsen Chirara, Managing Director of Arc Informatique, expressed support for the project:

“PAIX, with its African expertise, is a trusted, neutral player in the market. This initiative will drive digital transformation across the region.”

Norman Albi, Managing Director of AFR-IX Telecom, emphasized the centre’s importance for connectivity:

“This new data centre will reinforce the digital infrastructure of the region and provide a solid platform for business growth and technological development.”
