Initiative aims to equip young women with in-demand digital and software development skills
Airtel Nigeria has welcomed a new cohort of 200 young women into its DigiLeap Women in Tech Inclusion Programme, reinforcing its commitment to bridging the gender gap in technology and creating more opportunities for women to participate in Africa’s rapidly growing digital economy.
The programme is designed to provide participants with practical, industry-relevant training in digital literacy, software development, and emerging technologies, equipping them with the technical skills needed to pursue careers in the technology sector or launch their own digital ventures.
Building a more inclusive digital workforce
As demand for digital talent continues to rise across Africa, initiatives such as DigiLeap are playing an increasingly important role in ensuring women are not left behind in the continent’s technology transformation.
The programme focuses on hands-on learning, mentorship, and career development, enabling participants to gain practical experience that aligns with the needs of today’s technology industry. Beyond technical skills, the initiative also aims to build confidence, encourage innovation, and prepare young women for opportunities in software engineering, digital entrepreneurship, and other technology-driven careers.
By investing in digital education, Airtel Nigeria hopes to help address the gender imbalance that continues to exist across many STEM and technology professions.
Empowering the next generation of African innovators
The latest intake reflects Airtel Nigeria’s broader strategy to empower young people through digital education while supporting national and continental goals of expanding digital inclusion.
As governments and private sector organisations continue investing in Africa’s digital infrastructure, programmes that equip women with future-ready skills are expected to become increasingly important in developing a competitive workforce capable of driving innovation across industries.
The DigiLeap Women in Tech Inclusion Programme also contributes to broader efforts to increase female representation in technology leadership, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, software development, and other emerging digital fields.
Driving Africa’s digital future
Across Africa, technology companies are placing greater emphasis on creating inclusive pathways into the digital economy, recognising that diverse teams contribute to stronger innovation and economic growth.
Through initiatives like DigiLeap, Airtel Nigeria is helping cultivate a new generation of women equipped to contribute to the continent’s evolving technology ecosystem. As these participants complete their training, many are expected to pursue careers in software development, digital services, and entrepreneurship, strengthening Africa’s growing pool of digital talent.
