Apple Arcade is expanding its growing sports gaming lineup with the arrival of EA SPORTS Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition, bringing one of the world’s most iconic American football franchises to Apple’s subscription gaming service on 6 August 2026.
Designed exclusively for Apple Arcade, the new title delivers a premium Madden experience without advertisements or in-app purchases, allowing players to experience authentic NFL gameplay across iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV.
The launch further strengthens Apple Arcade’s position as a destination for sports gaming, joining an expanding catalogue that includes NBA 2K26 Arcade Edition, Football Manager 26 Touch, PGA TOUR Pro Golf, Mini Football Legends and the Retro Bowl franchise.
Apple doubles down on premium sports gaming
Apple says the addition of Madden represents another milestone in its effort to offer a diverse range of high-quality sports titles under a single subscription.
Alex Rofman, Apple’s Senior Director of Apple Arcade, described the launch as a significant moment for the platform.
“From the pitch to the court to the gridiron, Apple Arcade delivers an unmatched lineup of sports games for every kind of fan,” said Rofman. “I’ve been a longtime Madden NFL player and adding this legendary franchise to our catalogue is a dream come true.”
He added that the release arrives just in time for the upcoming NFL season, giving subscribers access to one of the most recognisable sports franchises alongside other major titles.
Franchise mode headlines the experience
Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition offers players the full football simulation experience, including the fan-favourite Franchise and Quick Play modes.
Franchise mode allows players to step into the role of General Manager, making roster decisions, navigating evolving storylines and building a championship-winning organisation over multiple seasons. Dynamic player ratings will also reflect real-world NFL performances throughout the season.
The game has been optimised for Apple devices with full controller support, allowing users to enjoy the experience whether playing on the move with an iPhone or on a television via Apple TV.
EA brings Madden to a new generation of Apple players
Electronic Arts believes Apple Arcade provides the ideal platform to introduce Madden to a broader audience.
Evan Dexter, EA’s Vice President of Franchise Strategy and Marketing, said the company wanted to bring the complete Madden experience to Apple users without compromise.
“Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition is a chance to bring the most authentic NFL experience to a new audience of football fans, letting them play and compete as the league’s most elite players, or take control as GM and shape a franchise,” Dexter said.
He added that Apple Arcade’s premium subscription model aligns with EA’s vision of delivering a complete football experience free from monetisation distractions.
Retro Bowl franchise also expands
American football fans will receive even more content on Apple Arcade with the arrival of Retro Bowl College+, also launching on 6 August.
The college football spin-off allows players to coach one of 250 college teams, building programmes and competing for championship success in the franchise’s signature retro-inspired style.
Meanwhile, NFL Retro Bowl ’27 arrives on 3 September with a brand-new Gauntlet Mode, introducing a challenging 15-game win streak format featuring strategic opponent selection, player progression and weekly online leaderboards.
More updates for sports fans
Apple is also rolling out fresh content across several existing sports titles.
NBA 2K26 Arcade Edition has added two-time NBA All-Star Tyrese Maxey as its latest Paragon player while introducing the 2016–2024 Era to The Association mode.
Meanwhile, PGA TOUR Pro Golf receives a new playable course with the addition of Bear’s Best Atlanta, further expanding its golf experience.
Apple Arcade currently offers subscribers access to more than 200 premium games, all playable without advertisements or in-app purchases. The service is available across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro, with Family Sharing allowing up to six users to access the full catalogue under a single subscription.
