Meta Launches “Incognito Chat” to Make AI Conversations Fully Private

A New Era of Private AI Interaction

Meta Platforms has unveiled Incognito Chat with Meta AI, a new feature rolling out across WhatsApp and the Meta AI app, designed to offer users a completely private way to interact with artificial intelligence.

The feature marks a significant shift in how AI conversations are handled, especially as more users rely on chatbots for sensitive and personal queries ranging from health concerns to financial advice.

“Not Even Meta Can See It”

At the core of Incognito Chat is a bold privacy promise: no one — not even Meta — can read your conversations.

Built on WhatsApp’s Private Processing technology, the feature ensures that:

  • Conversations are handled in a secure, isolated environment
  • Messages are not stored
  • Chats disappear by default

This means users can ask deeply personal or sensitive questions without worrying about their data being accessed, tracked, or retained.

How Incognito Chat Works

When users start an Incognito Chat, they create a temporary, private session with Meta AI. Unlike traditional AI chats, which may store or analyze interactions, these conversations are:

  • Invisible to external systems
  • Ephemeral by design
  • Accessible only to the user

The approach positions Meta’s offering as more private than typical “incognito modes” on other platforms, which may still process or log user data behind the scenes.

Why It Matters Now

AI has rapidly become a go-to tool for information, advice, and decision-making. But with that rise comes growing concern around data privacy, especially when users share:

  • Medical questions
  • Financial details
  • Career or personal dilemmas

Meta’s Incognito Chat aims to address this gap by creating a safe space for high-trust conversations, potentially increasing user confidence in AI tools.

What’s Next: Side Chat Integration

Meta also revealed plans to expand its private AI ecosystem with a feature called Side Chat, expected to launch in the coming months.

Side Chat will allow users to:

  • Get AI assistance within ongoing WhatsApp conversations
  • Maintain context awareness without disrupting chats
  • Still benefit from the same Private Processing protections

Gradual Rollout Underway

Incognito Chat with Meta AI is currently being rolled out gradually across WhatsApp and the Meta AI app, with broader availability expected in the coming months.
