Samsung Taps Won-Jin Lee to Lead Visual Display Business

Samsung Names New Head of TV Division

Samsung Electronics has appointed President Won-Jin Lee as the new Head of its Visual Display Business, marking a significant leadership change for the company’s television division as it looks to sharpen its competitive edge in a rapidly evolving global market.

Lee succeeds President Seok Woo Yong, who previously led the business and will now transition into an advisory role to the Head of Samsung’s Device eXperience (DX) Division. In his new position, Yong is expected to provide strategic guidance on future-facing technologies across the broader DX unit, including artificial intelligence and robotics.

Marketing Veteran Takes the Helm

Before this appointment, Won-Jin Lee served as Head of Samsung’s Global Marketing Office, where he played a central role in shaping the company’s global content, service and marketing strategies. Samsung described Lee as a key architect behind the foundations of its TV and mobile service businesses, with extensive expertise in consumer engagement and brand-led growth.

The company said Lee’s appointment is expected to help drive business turnarounds and unlock new growth opportunities for the Visual Display Business, reinforcing Samsung’s position in one of its most competitive product categories.

Leadership Change Comes Amid Mounting Pressure

The appointment comes at a crucial time for Samsung’s TV business, which is facing increased pressure from aggressive Chinese rivals such as TCL and Hisense, as well as softer global demand and rising production costs. Reuters reported that Samsung’s TV profitability declined in the first quarter, adding urgency to the leadership change.

Lee’s arrival signals Samsung’s intent to inject fresh strategic thinking into its display business as competition intensifies and the global home entertainment market becomes more crowded.

Seok Woo Yong Moves Into Future Tech Advisory Role

While stepping away from the Visual Display Business, Seok Woo Yong is set to remain influential within Samsung’s broader technology roadmap. Leveraging his R&D background and business leadership experience, he will advise on the DX Division’s core future technologies, with a focus on AI and robotics.
