Spotify Introduces A New Feature Titled SongDNA

Spotify has unveiled a groundbreaking new feature, SongDNA, designed to give music fans a deeper, more immersive understanding of the songs they love by mapping out the creative networks behind them.

Now rolling out globally to Premium users, SongDNA is integrated directly into the platform’s Now Playing view on mobile devices. The feature allows listeners to go beyond simply hearing a track, offering an interactive journey through the writers, producers, collaborators, and influences that shaped each song.

With a simple tap on the SongDNA card, users can explore the full creative ecosystem behind a track, including samples, interpolations, and cover versions. The experience is designed to be dynamic and exploratory, enabling listeners to follow connections between artists and collaborators across genres and generations.

Spotify says the feature reimagines music discovery by turning each song into a gateway. Fans can tap into individual contributors and uncover other artists they’ve worked with, effectively tracing the lineage of sound and influence in real time.

The launch of SongDNA also signals a major step forward in how the platform recognises the broader creative community behind music. Songwriters, producers, composers, and engineers are brought to the forefront, offering them greater visibility in an industry where they have often remained behind the scenes.

According to Jacqueline Ankner, Spotify’s Head of Songwriter & Publisher Partnerships, the feature is aimed at increasing transparency in music creation. She explains that SongDNA allows fans to explore the people and influences behind songs more easily, while ensuring contributors receive meaningful recognition for their work.

The data powering SongDNA is sourced from artists and their teams, as well as community contributions. Spotify has also integrated the feature into Spotify for Artists, allowing eligible creators and labels to manage how their work and collaborations are represented within the experience.

SongDNA builds on existing features like About the Song, but takes things further by transforming listening into a fully interactive exploration. While previous tools focused on storytelling, SongDNA creates a connected universe around each track, where users can navigate through musical relationships and histories.

Currently in beta, the feature is available to Premium users on iOS and Android, with a broader rollout expected to continue throughout April.
