Samsung Wallet Adds Digital Key Support for Toyota Vehicles

Samsung Electronics has announced that Samsung Wallet will now support Digital Key compatibility for select Toyota vehicles, beginning in January 2026. The new functionality will allow users with compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphones to unlock, lock and start their Toyota vehicles using their phones, offering a more convenient and secure driving experience.

The rollout will begin with select 2026 Toyota RAV4 models, enabling Galaxy users to leave physical car keys behind while maintaining high levels of security and control. The feature forms part of Samsung’s broader push to integrate everyday essentials into a single, seamless digital wallet experience.

“Samsung Wallet is designed to remove friction from daily life through the combination of seamless convenience and uncompromising security,”

said Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of the Digital Wallet Team in Samsung’s Mobile eXperience (MX) Business.

“By bringing Digital Key support to Toyota vehicles, starting with the 2026 Toyota RAV4, we’re extending those benefits to more people, so that Galaxy users can get on the road faster, safer and more easily.”

Samsung Wallet already serves as a secure hub for payment cards, IDs, passes and digital keys, and its deep integration across the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem enables smooth connectivity while maintaining strong security standards.

Once a compatible Toyota vehicle is paired with Samsung Wallet, users can access and start their car without a physical key. The system uses Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology for hands-free entry, alongside Near Field Communication (NFC) for additional functionality. UWB, a standardized protocol defined by the Car Connectivity Consortium, enhances security by offering precise location-based communication, reducing the risk of unauthorized access.

The Digital Key feature also supports key sharing, allowing users to grant or revoke access to trusted contacts directly through Samsung Wallet. This flexibility is designed for multi-driver households or temporary vehicle use.

Security remains a core focus of the solution. Digital Keys are stored securely on the device and protected by Samsung Knox, the company’s security platform. The keys meet EAL6+ certification standards, offering robust protection against unauthorized access. In the event a device is lost or stolen, users can remotely lock or delete their Digital Key using the Samsung Find service, while biometric or PIN authentication adds another layer of protection.

The Digital Key functionality for select 2026 Toyota RAV4 models will begin rolling out this month in the United States, Canada and Mexico. A broader rollout in Europe is planned to follow, aligned with Toyota’s vehicle launch timelines.
