Say Goodbye to Passwords, Hello to Passkeys
Meta is taking a major step toward a password-free future by rolling out passkey login support for Facebook on iOS and Android devices. Passkeys offer a faster, safer way to access your account — without the need to remember or enter a password.
What Are Passkeys?
Passkeys are secure digital credentials that let users log in using the fingerprint, facial recognition, or PIN already set up on their mobile device. Developed by the FIDO Alliance, this new standard in authentication is designed to eliminate the vulnerabilities of traditional passwords and protect users from phishing and password-related attacks.
Stronger Security, Simpler Access
Unlike passwords or SMS codes, passkeys can’t be guessed, reused, or stolen through scam links or malicious sites. They’re securely stored on your device, and Meta confirms it will never see, store, or share your biometric data or PIN.
Coming Soon to Messenger and Meta Pay
While passkeys are launching first on Facebook mobile, Meta has announced that the same passkey will soon be usable across Messenger and for secure Meta Pay transactions, including autofilling payment information and accessing encrypted message backups.
How to Set Up Your Facebook Passkey
Creating a passkey is easy. Users can visit the Accounts Center in the Facebook Settings menu or wait for a prompt during login. Once a passkey is set up, users can use it to log in quickly and securely — though traditional login methods will still be available for unsupported devices.
More Control, More Privacy
As digital threats become more sophisticated, passkeys offer a meaningful upgrade in privacy and peace of mind. By verifying your identity directly through your device, Meta’s integration of passkeys helps ensure your data stays protected — without slowing you down.
