Meta for Education Launches to the Public

Meta has officially launched Meta for Education, a groundbreaking mixed and virtual reality (MR/VR) platform designed to transform the classroom experience. Previously available through a limited beta program, the platform is now open to educators and institutions globally, offering powerful new tools to enhance teaching and learning through immersive technology.

Originally announced in April 2024, Meta for Education is built specifically for the needs of educators, trainers, and administrators. The platform combines Meta Quest headsets, including the popular Quest 3 and Quest 3S, with Meta Horizon managed services, providing access to a wide range of education-specific apps and features.

The promise of MR and VR in education lies in their ability to turn lessons into interactive experiences. With Meta for Education, students can dive into the molecular makeup of a chemical compound, walk through ancient cities during key moments in history, or explore artistic concepts in ways that traditional classrooms can’t provide.

Across 83 Inspired Education Group schools already piloting the technology, the results have been promising:

  • 90% of students reported higher engagement and interest in their lessons.

  • 85% of teachers said VR and MR enhanced their teaching.

  • Students experienced a 15% improvement in test scores on multiple-choice assessments.

  • There was also a 25% increase in students’ confidence in their understanding of subjects.

“Meta for Education isn’t about replacing in-person learning,”

explained Dr. Sean Hauze, Senior Director of Instructional Technology at San Diego State University.

“It’s about empowering students to do things that would be out of reach otherwise.”

The platform, which was shaped through a robust beta program involving institutions like Savannah College of Art & Design, Imperial College London, Morehouse College, and the University of Michigan, has already proven its value in higher education. Educators noted how the immersive environments made lessons more memorable and helped clarify complex topics.

Meta for Education includes a subscription model bundled with Quest headsets, giving schools full access to Meta Horizon’s managed services. It also supports a growing library of third-party content across subjects like science, history, and language arts.

As Meta continues to push the boundaries of immersive technology, this public launch marks a significant step forward in bringing cutting-edge tools into classrooms — helping students learn not just from textbooks, but through experience.
