In a bold move to raise awareness of the ongoing barriers faced by women in various sectors, Women in Tech Global, in collaboration with UN Women, launched the “Beyond Ceilings” campaign during the Women in Tech Global Summit 2024 in Paris.
This initiative aims to illuminate the pervasive glass ceiling that hinders women’s progress, especially in STEM fields.
The campaign debuted with a powerful short film, directed by Canadian filmmaker Maïlis and produced by French agency WAY TV. The narrative follows a young girl named Lily as she navigates a world constrained by low ceilings, serving as a metaphor for the societal limitations placed on women’s aspirations.
The film poignantly illustrates how girls are often taught that their potential is limited, contrasting this with the messages of boundless opportunity typically offered to boys.
Statistics underscore the urgency of this message: women occupy only 28.2% of management roles globally and hold a mere 5.8% of CEO positions among Fortune 500 companies. If current trends persist, women are projected to achieve only a 30% share of leadership positions by 2050.
“This campaign is a call for societal change, advocating for collective efforts to dismantle the obstacles that restrict women and girls’ potential,”
stated Ayumi Moore Aoki, Founder and CEO of Women in Tech Global.
“Together, we can break these barriers and ensure that every girl knows that the sky has no limits.”
The “Beyond Ceilings” campaign will be supported by a series of TV commercials and outdoor advertisements in major cities worldwide, further amplifying its reach.
The initiative aims to challenge the entrenched biases that continue to permeate educational and professional environments.
UN Women echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of empowering women and girls in ICT and beyond. Through collaborative efforts like “Beyond Ceilings,” both organizations strive to foster a future where the ambitions of girls are unbounded and fully realized.
As the campaign gains traction, it hopes to inspire discussions and actions that challenge the status quo, creating a world where every girl can dream without limits.
