Apple highlights new app experiences for foldable iPhone Duo

Apple has outlined how developers are adapting entertainment, productivity and creative apps for iPhone Duo, with the first wave of optimised experiences arriving alongside the device’s availability on Friday, 23 October 2026.

According to the company’s announcement, its first foldable iPhone introduces a larger inner display, flexible viewing positions and Split View multitasking, giving developers new ways to arrange content and controls.

Apple says the inner display is 50 percent larger than that of the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Both displays share the same aspect ratio, allowing apps to scale proportionally as users open or close the device.

Streaming apps embrace the folding display

Netflix, Prime Video and Paramount+ are among the streaming services adapting their apps for iPhone Duo.

Netflix allows viewers to browse Clips on the outer display before opening the phone to continue watching on the larger screen. The interface adjusts as the device opens, closes or rotates.

Prime Video uses the partially folded position to separate entertainment from supporting information. Video plays on the upper half of the display, while X-Ray cast details and bonus content appear below.

Sports apps are taking a similar approach. MLB can display a live game on the upright half of the screen while showing real-time statistics on the lower half, allowing fans to follow the broadcast and match information simultaneously.

Split View brings side-by-side multitasking

Productivity is another focus, with Split View allowing users to open two apps alongside each other.

Microsoft Word and Outlook are expected to introduce updated experiences in the coming weeks. Word will place formatting tools beside documents, while Outlook will show the inbox alongside an open message.

Zoom’s layout allows participants and shared content to remain visible together. Slack and Salesforce are also using the additional screen space to display more workspace information and business dashboards.

Calendar app Fantastical brings calendars, tasks and menus into a single view, while apps including Notewise, Things and Bear offer expanded layouts for notes and organisation.

More room for video creators and DJs

Creative apps are using the larger display to make editing tools and content easier to access.

Instagram’s Edits places the video preview, timeline and editing controls within an expanded workspace. VLLO similarly gives creators more room to view footage and make adjustments.

Detail combines video and its transcript in a side-by-side layout, with on-device AI supporting captions, filler-word removal and audio enhancement.

Music apps are also part of the rollout. The updated edjing Mix interface provides space for two decks, audio effects and one-tap stem separation, while Moises allows musicians to adjust vocals and instruments as they follow lyrics and chords.

Games adapt to different screen positions

Apple says the A20 Pro chip and a custom vapour chamber deliver up to 35 percent better sustained performance than iPhone 17 Pro.

Games including Asphalt Legends, Sneaky Sasquatch and Retrocade are taking advantage of the larger inner display. Other titles are adapting their controls to the device’s different positions.

Zenless Zone Zero is scheduled to receive its iPhone Duo update in November. Dark fantasy role-playing game UnGodly is also due to launch that month, with layouts designed for both displays.

Independent app Deck-Man takes a different approach, turning the folding action into part of a retro music experience. Users open the device to choose an album and insert a virtual cassette, then close it to begin listening through Apple Music.

Everyday apps get expanded layouts

The app updates extend to cooking, shopping and travel.

NYT Cooking supports a partially folded countertop setup for following recipes and watching demonstrations. Yelp places maps alongside reviews, while shopping platform LTK combines creator videos with the products featured in them.

Flighty introduces a dedicated flight-tracking mode for the propped-up device. Airline apps from American Airlines and United Airlines are also adapting navigation and travel information for the larger screen.

Apple says developers in markets including China, South Korea, Europe and Latin America are preparing local app experiences, spanning messaging, reading, fitness and trip planning.

Availability and pricing

Apple will highlight supported apps through new App Store editorial collections and a “Made for iPhone Duo” badge on product pages. Further app updates are expected throughout the year.

According to the announcement, iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 in the US, with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage options, in star white and night sky.
