Paystack Brings Smoother Shopify Payments to South Africa

South African businesses using Shopify can now offer customers card payments directly within their online checkout through Paystack Onsite, removing the need to redirect shoppers to a separate payment page.

The payment company says the offering creates a continuous shopping experience, allowing customers to move from selecting products to completing their purchases while remaining within the store’s checkout.

The change addresses a potentially frustrating moment in online shopping: being transferred to an unfamiliar page just as a customer is ready to pay. Paystack positions the service as a way to reduce that interruption and help merchants retain shoppers through the final stage of a purchase.

With Paystack Onsite, customers enter their card details into fields displayed directly on the checkout page. The service supports Visa and Mastercard, with Paystack describing its payment infrastructure as PCI-DSS compliant and encrypted.

For merchants, the appeal is a more consistent experience that preserves the look and feel of their store during payment. Paystack says customers can also complete 3D Secure authentication within the checkout flow.

The offering also connects with Paystack’s push into physical retail. Businesses selling through shops, market stalls or pop-up events can pair the online service with Paystack Terminal for Shopify POS. According to the company, online and in-person sales then appear together in the same Paystack Dashboard, giving merchants a consolidated view of their payments.

Paystack Onsite is free to install, although payment processing remains subject to the company’s standard South African pricing. Paystack says the service carries no lock-in and that most merchants can begin accepting live payments on the day they complete setup.

For South African entrepreneurs building retail businesses across digital and physical channels, the update offers a practical improvement: fewer interruptions for customers paying online, alongside a shared dashboard for tracking sales across different selling environments.
