Great news for streaming fans in South Africa! From 13 March 2025, DStv Premium, Compact Plus, and Compact subscribers can enjoy two concurrent streams as part of their subscription. This update allows users to watch content on any device, including smart TVs, laptops, and smartphones, offering greater flexibility to stream their favorite shows, movies, and sports anywhere, anytime. Additionally, DStv Stream standalone customers will now benefit from an extra concurrent stream across all devices.
This development builds on the streaming enhancements introduced by DStv last year, which included cloud PVR functionality enabling users to pause and rewind up to 24 hours without a decoder. Other improvements such as an enhanced ‘Watch from Start’ feature, a redesigned interface with personalized recommendations, AI-driven content suggestions, and parental control options for age-restricted kids’ profiles further enhance the user experience.
As more South African households embrace second-screen viewing, the return of DStv’s second stream option comes as a major boost for families and sports fans. With DStv’s extensive sports offerings, subscribers can now watch multiple live events simultaneously. This is particularly exciting given the packed sports calendar, which includes major fixtures such as the Betway Premiership title-decider between Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates on Saturday, the Carabao Cup final featuring Liverpool vs Newcastle United on Sunday, and the Formula 1 season opener at the Australian Grand Prix. Rugby enthusiasts can also look forward to decisive Six Nations clashes between Wales vs England and France vs Scotland.
Beyond sports, DStv offers a rich library of on-demand content and live channels, ensuring entertainment lovers never miss a moment. This March, highlights include the launch of Cobrizi, a The River spinoff on Mzansi Magic, the mind-blowing stunts of David Blaine: Do Not Attempt on National Geographic, the espionage-packed Lioness S2 on M-Net, and the new mystery-comedy Ludwig on BBC Brit. April promises even more must-watch content, including The Last of Us Season 2 on M-Net, the true-crime drama Niggies on kykNET, and new telenovelas Genesis and Inimba on Mzansi Magic.
The return of the second stream adds more value to DStv subscriptions. DStv Premium customers, who already enjoy Showmax at no extra cost, now have access to two DStv streams and two Showmax streams, allowing for up to four concurrent streams. DStv Compact subscribers can also enjoy two DStv streams, along with discounted Showmax access, bringing their total concurrent streaming options to four as well.
“With shifting viewing habits and growing connectivity, it’s the right time to bring back the second stream to supplement our overall value proposition,”
said Byron du Plessis, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa.
“With 150 million monthly views, the DStv Stream platform continues to grow. DStv satellite customers can access DStv Stream for free, but it is also available as a standalone streaming option. With the return of the second stream, our customers have more opportunities to engage with the content they love, including the best local stories, world-class sport, and a variety of international content.”
