Samsung Expands Digital Key Compatibility to Volvo

Samsung Electronics has announced the expansion of its Digital Key feature to select Volvo Cars and Polestar vehicles via Samsung Wallet, offering Galaxy smartphone users a seamless and secure way to unlock, lock, and start their vehicles without a physical key.

Enhanced Convenience and Security

“Expanding Samsung Digital Key access is an important part of our commitment to offering connected, secure experiences within the Galaxy ecosystem,”

said Woncheol Chai, EVP and Head of the Digital Wallet Team, Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics.

“Our partnership with automakers such as Volvo Cars and Polestar marks another exciting step forward in making everyday activities like driving hassle-free for more Galaxy users worldwide.”

Built directly into Galaxy devices, Samsung Digital Key offers three key control methods:

  • Ultra-Wideband (UWB): Enables hands-free access.
  • Near Field Communication (NFC): Allows users to tap their phone to unlock and start the vehicle.
  • Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE): Provides remote access through Samsung Wallet.

Users can also share Digital Keys with friends and family across compatible devices, managing access conveniently within the app.

Top-Level Security Measures

Samsung Digital Key meets EAL6+ certification standards, one of the highest levels of security for smart devices, ensuring protection against unauthorized access. The feature is also built upon UWB technologies defined by the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), reducing the risk of unauthorized vehicle access.

If a device containing a Samsung Digital Key is lost or stolen, users can remotely lock or delete the key through Samsung Find. Biometric authentication and PIN-based access further enhance security within Samsung Wallet.

Samsung Wallet: A Versatile Platform

Launched in June 2022, Samsung Wallet is a multifunctional platform designed for convenience and security, allowing users to manage Digital Keys, payment methods, identification cards, and more. The application is protected by Samsung Knox, ensuring defense-grade security across the Galaxy ecosystem.

Global Rollout

Samsung Digital Key functionality for select Volvo Cars will begin rolling out this month across Europe, North America, Latin America, and Asia. Similarly, select Polestar vehicles will gain Digital Key functionality in Europe, North America, and Asia starting this month.

This expansion marks a significant step in Samsung’s efforts to integrate cutting-edge technology into daily life, providing drivers with a more connected and secure driving experience.
