Samsung Unveils Conversational Bixby With Real-Time Web Search

Samsung Electronics has announced the beta launch of the latest version of its voice assistant, Bixby, upgraded to function as a conversational device agent designed to make interactions with Galaxy devices more intuitive.

The updated Bixby allows users to communicate with their devices using natural language, removing the need to memorise exact feature names or navigate complex settings menus. According to the company, the redesign aims to reduce friction in everyday tasks by enabling more natural conversations and intuitive device control.

“Since we introduced our first AI phone in 2024, we’ve been committed to making them easier to use so more people can benefit from AI — that’s why we decided to integrate a device agent directly into the experience,” said Won-Joon Choi, Chief Operating Officer of the Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics. He added that Bixby has been redesigned to support more natural interactions and simplify device management.

Natural Language Device Control

With the upgrade, users can describe what they want their device to do in their own words. Bixby interprets the intent and carries out the relevant action without requiring users to know the exact terminology of a feature.

For example, a user can say, “I don’t want the screen to time out while I’m still looking at it,” and Bixby will activate the “Keep Screen on While Viewing” setting automatically. Similarly, if someone asks why their phone screen remains on while inside a pocket, Bixby can identify the likely cause and suggest enabling features such as Accidental Touch Protection.

The assistant is also designed to assess a device’s current settings and recommend possible solutions, reducing trial and error for users unfamiliar with specific features.

Real-Time Web Search Integration

In addition to enhanced device control, Bixby now supports real-time web search capabilities. Users can access live and up-to-date information directly within Bixby’s interface without being redirected to a separate browser or app.

For instance, a request such as “Find me hotels in Seoul that have swimming pools for kids” will generate relevant web search results within the assistant’s interface, allowing users to browse options seamlessly.

Availability

The upgraded Bixby is rolling out in beta through One UI 8.5 in select markets, including Germany, India, Korea, Poland, the United Kingdom and the United States. Samsung indicated that broader expansion plans will follow.
