In a fusion of fashion innovation and cutting-edge technology, ISSEY MIYAKE and Apple have introduced iPhone Pocket, a minimalist yet expressive accessory designed to transform how people carry their devices. Launching Friday, November 14, the collaborative piece will be available in select Apple Stores across nine regions, including France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and the U.S.
A Pocket Reimagined
Inspired by ISSEY MIYAKE’s philosophy of “a piece of cloth,” the iPhone Pocket uses a singular 3D-knitted construction to create a lightweight, stretchable accessory that molds to any iPhone model — and more. Its ribbed, open structure echoes the brand’s signature pleats, allowing the textile to subtly reveal its contents when stretched.
Designed both as a fashion statement and functional everyday solution, the iPhone Pocket can be worn in multiple ways: handheld, tied to bags, or worn directly on the body. The short strap version arrives in eight vibrant colors, while the long strap version is offered in three timeless shades.
Where Fashion Meets Technology
Yoshiyuki Miyamae, design director at MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO, said the collaboration explores “the joy of wearing iPhone in your own way,” emphasizing universality, openness, and personal interpretation.
“The design of iPhone Pocket speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user, while keeping in mind that an Apple product is designed to be universal in aesthetic and versatile in use,”
Miyamae said.
Apple’s vice president of Industrial Design, Molly Anderson, echoed the shared design ethos, highlighting craftsmanship and simplicity.
“This clever extra pocket is a natural accompaniment to our products,”
Anderson noted.
“The palette was intentionally chosen to mix and match with all iPhone models — allowing users to create their own personalized combination.”
Crafted in Japan, Designed for the World
Developed through the ISSEY MIYAKE research and development process, the iPhone Pocket takes inspiration from the brand’s reinterpretation of everyday utility. The project evolved in close collaboration with the Apple Design Studio, blending textile experimentation with Apple’s precision-driven production philosophy.
