WhatsApp has officially launched its long-awaited app for Apple Watch, bringing a full suite of messaging and calling features directly to users’ wrists — no iPhone required.
The new app allows Apple Watch users to read and reply to messages, send voice notes, view call notifications, and even react to messages with emojis — all from their watch screen. Users can also enjoy a clearer media experience, with improved image and sticker display, and access to more of their chat history without needing to reach for their phones.
In a statement, WhatsApp said the app supports “many of our most-requested features,” including:
-
Call notifications: See who’s calling you instantly on your wrist.
-
Full message view: Read complete WhatsApp messages, including long texts.
-
Message composition: Write and send messages directly from the watch.
-
Voice messaging: Record and send voice notes with a tap.
-
Emoji reactions: Respond quickly with expressive reactions.
-
Enhanced media: Enjoy sharper visuals for images and stickers.
As with all WhatsApp products, end-to-end encryption remains active, ensuring that personal messages and calls stay private.
The app is compatible with Apple Watch Series 4 or later, running watchOS 10 or newer. WhatsApp emphasized that this rollout marks “just the start,” promising further improvements based on user feedback.
With this launch, WhatsApp joins the growing wave of messaging platforms expanding their smartwatch capabilities, offering users more ways to stay connected — even when their phones aren’t in hand.
